The Isuzu Mu
The High riding Multi Utility – eXtreme, better known as the Isuzu Mu-X, has received a subtle yet effective facelift, making it more appealing than before.
While there are no mechanical updates, the three-litre line-up has expanded with a new 4×4 version of the popular three LSE and a value-oriented 1.9 LS model added to the range for the first time.
Since its introduction in 2013, the Mu-X has been making steady progress and establishing itself as a prominent contender in the SUV segment. The new range now offers a total of five three-litre Mu-X models, including the three LS and three LSE, available in 4×2 and 4×4 versions, as well as the top-of-the-range Onyx 4×4.
The new Mu-X's sleek exterior design is not far off the previous generation but has been enhanced with a touch of detail that distinguishes it from its predecessor. Although not immediately noticeable at first glance, a closer inspection reveals the differences. The new model features dark magnetite finishes for the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, front fog lamp bezels, roof rails, and side steps, replacing the tungsten silver and chrome that defined the previous model. The rear combination lamps have also been refreshed to continue the new design theme.
The LS models now come with 18-inch alloy wheels, replacing the 17-inch versions previously used, and a matching full-size 18-inch alloy spare wheel instead of steel rims. The LSE and Onyx models feature new 20-inch machined alloy wheels that give them even more curb appeal. The high-spec LSE and opulent Onyx models also feature a power tailgate with a step sensor integrated into the rear bumper and remote start functionality.
The step sensor provides hands-free access to the rear luggage compartment, while the remote start function allows the driver to start the vehicle remotely from the key, making it possible to pre-cool the cabin on hot summer days or pre-warm the engine on chilly mid-winter mornings.
Inside the cabin, the Mu-X range now comes standard with leather seats, replacing the cloth previously used on the lower-spec models. To aid parking and overall manoeuvrability in tight spaces, the LS models have been fitted with front and rear parking sensors. The LSE now comes with an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel, giving the driver fingertip control of the six-speed automatic gearbox.
