Tata Altroz to get new variants in petrol, diesel and CNG: Details

Tata Motors is preparing to launch the CNG-powered variant of the Altroz hatchback in the coming days. Along with this new version, Tata Motors will introduce a new mid-spec XM+ (S) variant for the Altroz. The Altroz XM+ (S) will be available in all three fuel options – petrol, diesel, and CNG. Positioned between the XM+ and XT variants, the new Altroz XM+ (S) will offer additional features such as a knitted roof liner, shark fin antenna, and rain-sensing wipers. The CNG version will come with exclusive features like a digital instrument console and sunroof.

Tata Motors will enhance the currently available XT variant with added features, including leatherette seats, hyper-style wheels, a reverse camera, automatic climate control, a sunglass holder, and adjustable rear headrests. The XT Dark edition variant will also come with a leather steering cover according to information shared by CarWale.

Presently, there is a price difference of approximately Rs 55,000 between the XM+ and XT variants of the Tata Altroz. The XM+ (S) variant will be positioned between these two variants, and with the minimal upgrades, it is expected to be priced Rs 15,000-20,000 higher than the XM+ variant. The new Altroz variant, along with the CNG-powered version, will be dispatched by the end of May 2023.

The XM+ (S) variant stands out as one of the few variants available with all three powertrain options of the Altroz. The current Altroz lineup includes a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine delivering 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque.

The upcoming CNG version will feature the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, delivering 74 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. All versions are equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the petrol engine variant offers an optional 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Following its launch, the Altroz received a commendable five-star safety rating from Global NCAP, making it the highest-rated made-in-India car at the time. However, its reign at the top was short-lived as the Mahindra XUV300 surpassed the Altroz to become the safest car in India with a higher score. Nevertheless, the Altroz still maintains its five-star rating and holds the position of the third safest car in the Indian market.

During the tests conducted at a speed of 64 km/h, the Altroz achieved a score of 16.13 out of 17 for adult safety. In terms of child safety, it scored 29 out of 49. All variants of the Tata Altroz come equipped with two airbags as standard, and the report highlights the stable bodyshell integrity of the vehicle.

According to the Global NCAP report, the upcoming Altroz offers good protection for the head, neck, and knees of the driver and co-driver, with adequate protection in the chest region. The car underwent various tests, including frontal off-set crash and side-impact crash tests.

Standard safety features across all Altroz variants include ABS, EBD, Corner Stability Control, front seatbelt reminder, speed alert system, and ISOFIX anchorage for child seats. As the first product on the ALFA architecture, the Altroz has received a perfect five-star rating, showcasing its commitment to safety.
