The 2024 BMW 5 Series represents a giant leap forward in the model's history as it will for the very first time offer an all-electric powertrain along with gasoline and hybrid options. The eighth generation 5 Series brings about some radical new changes, both in terms of exterior and interior design changes aside. On the i5, while you wait for your car to charge, you can also play some built-in games on the new curved infotainment screen. Also for the first time in a 5 Series, a panoramic roof will now be available.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, also represents an all-new generation and is longer wider, and more luxurious than ever before. It boasts enhanced technology, luxury, and an updated exterior design. The powertrains have received hybrid assistance, resulting in power boosts and improved fuel efficiency.
The cabin is even more comfortable, with many new technology features to enhance the driving experience. Some new stand out tech-features includes the new intelligent park assist (not legal in all countries) that allows the park itself. Rear-wheel steering is now available for the first time, similar to what we have on the S Class and EQS flagship sedans.

In terms of power and performance, the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class offer impressive options. Of the myriad of powertrain options available internationally with the new 5 Series, the base model 530i produces 255 horsepower and is available with rear or all-wheel drive. The 540i xDrive will feature a turbo-charged in-line six with 375 horsepower and standard all-wheel dive. Both models feature mild-hybrid tech.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the E350 models, delivering 255 horsepower. The E450 models feature a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with a combined output of 375 horsepower.
Both models offer all-wheel drive as standard, and the hybrid systems in the E-Class are designed to reduce turbo lag and enhance the auto start/stop system. All models are paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. While coil springs are standard, optional air suspension is also available.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series showcases a sophisticated and understated design. It exudes an upscale presence without being overly flashy. The sleek exterior lines and well-proportioned silhouette make for an elegant and timeless look. Thankfully BMW has retained an appropriately sized kidney grille with this latest 5 Series. The M-Sport package lets you choose a sportier grille and bumper design.
But the execution of the radar sensor does look odd. The headlights too feature a new lighting signature to distinguish it from previous models, while the rear end is what really sets this new 5 apart as this latest iteration packs sleek angular-looking tail lights.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class presents a handsome exterior design in its new 2024 iteration. Its sculpted lines and bold front grille embody the classic Mercedes-Benz elegance. In addition, the updated styling gives it a fresh and modern appearance that will turn heads on the road. Unlike the sporty 5 Series, the E-Class takes a more luxurious route and is an evolution rather than a revolution.
This new E certainly embodies the S-Class and distinguishing the two will now be more difficult than ever. A unique design detail that set this latest-gen E-Class apart from previous models is its headlight and tail-lights signatures. An easy way to tell the 2024 E-Class apart is with its tail light cluster that now features an arrangement that mimics the three-pointed stars.

The BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class offer luxurious and comfortable interiors. The 5 Series takes a massive departure from the previous generation as it is an absolute tech-fest. The design is futuristic and there is no shortage of high-quality surfaces including the crystal, used to control the iDrive 8.5 system. But what takes center stage is the new 12.3-inch and 14.9-inch displays housed in a single curved screen as seen on some other recent BMWs including the iX crossover, the new 7 Series, and the i4 sedans.
Similar to the outside, the S-Class influence continues on the inside as well as the E-Class takes comfort and quality to new heights. With its high-end materials and attention to detail, the cabin exudes luxury and refinement. While it does not have the same screen setup as the one you'd find on the EQS, the E-Class still boasts a bigger screen than what you have on the latest 5 Series.
Dubbed the super-screen, the central screen can be optioned with an additional screen for the passenger. The spacious interior provides a comfortable environment for both the driver and passengers. The wheelbase has now been stretched out by 22mm and as a consequence, the new E-Class now offers 17 mm more legroom than before.
